How to survive working for a Japanese company?

"Survival of the fittest", guess that's the word to describe working in a Japanese company. First of all they require employees to understand and speak Nihongo, to do that they let you take Nihongo classes (in my case at least 3 times a week), which is supposed to be a good thing but because you are always busy and always in need to render overtime to catch up to every work, Nihongo class becomes troublesome. And FYI Japanese are very strict, in terms of quality and productivity, for example, you need to log all work or task you did every time like what time you started, to the time you finished. Sometimes you also need to be more specific of the given task (e.g. each task could be categorized to parts like investigation, coding, debugging etc.).

"You can't avoid Overtime", if your division or department is working on a big project, it's impossible not to have overtime, especially if your team is delayed, in my case going home after rendering 2 hours of OT is the earliest it can get.

"Work fast, or FASTER", when you're given a task evaluate your task and its given target time to finish, if you think you can't reach the due time, approach you leader and ask for extension. Because if you don't and you delayed your task, expect an interview( more like a hot seat ). So the best thing to do is to finish the task as soon as possible then try your luck on relaxing a bit, because the next task is already waiting for you.

"Never be late", punctuality is a great deal among Japanese, a punctual person who doesn't render much OT has more chance to get promoted to a person who renders 5hours OT.

It may seemed extremely harsh and it really is, it is also very competitive, but the only real good thing that you could get from all these is the experience. Your growth from working for Japanese companies is a lot better compared to local companies. Somehow it trains your body to adapt easily, to accept more knowledge in a short span of time, to be very flexible (I've done about 3 different task in just a month), to practice team work and to be very competitive.

All in all, if you survived and could excel working in a Japanese company, many companies will go after you.

Cyber Monday 2009

What is Cyber Monday?

Cyber Monday is the Monday following Black Friday and the unofficial kick off to online shopping for the holiday season in the United States between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Whereas Black Friday is associated with traditional brick-and-mortar stores, "Cyber Monday" symbolizes a busy day for online retailers. Cyber Monday is just like Black Friday, except all of the deals and price cuts are available online. It always falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving, which is seen by many retailers and shoppers as the official kick-off to the online holiday shopping season.

When is Cyber Monday?

This year Cyber Monday will be on November 30, 2009.

Is Rachel Uchitel Having an Affair With Tiger Woods?

As news of the minor car accident involving Tiger Woods races around the Internet, people are beginning to ask questions about Rachel Uchitel, which last October claimed to be having an affair with Bones star David Boreanaz.

The National Enquirer reports that Uchitel has been sleeping with Tiger Woods. A friend of Rachel's supposedly told the unreliable tabloid:

"Rachel told me, ‘I’m having an affair with Tiger Woods. We’re in love!’ She even read me text messages Tiger sent her that said ‘I love you, babe. It’s always going to be just you and me. They were constantly sexting."

Tiger's lawyer denies the charges, and actually I have no idea whether the rumors are true. The Enquirer gets it wrong a lot, but they've outed several major figures for peccadilloes in the past, including former presidential candidate John Edwards.

But one look at Elin Nordegren pictures and it's hard to believe that these rumors are true.

The Twilight Saga : New Moon

I've been waiting for this movie for quite some time now, and was even more excited knowing that I'll get to watch the movie with someone very special to me (with her older sister and younger brother).

The movie was enjoyable though most of it were focused on the bond created between Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner - which is by the way a werewolf) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). This was after Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) left her thinking it was the right decision to protect her.

I've watched the movie in silence, specially the part where it portrays the grief of the heartbroken Bella, her screams at night, the nightmares she had to take and her exclusion from her friends. The only thing that had kept her to move on was Jacob, somehow it temporarily filled the hole Edward left.

Overall I will definitely recommend to anyone who have watched the first movie or have read the book to watch, though it doesn't contain much action, and it somehow sidetracked from the Edward and Bella moment, I still think that this series is a must see, because it has the elements that will change Bella's fate in the next installment.

I guess I can't continue anymore, I don't want to spoil the movie to anyone now. But if ever interested in the story line I've found a synopsis for you to read.

Synopsis: In the second installment of Stephenie Meyer's phenomenally successful Twilight series, the romance between mortal and vampire soars to a new level as Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) delves deeper into the mysteries of the supernatural world she yearns to become part of - only to find herself in greater peril than ever before.

Following Bella's ill-fated 18th birthday party, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his family abandon the town of Forks, Washington, in an effort to protect her from the dangers inherent in their world. As the heartbroken Bella sleepwalks through her senior year of high school, numb and alone, she discovers Edward's image comes to her whenever she puts herself in jeopardy.

Her desire to be with him at any cost leads her to take greater and greater risks. With the help of her childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), Bella refurbishes an old motorbike to carry her on her adventures. Bella's frozen heart is gradually thawed by her budding relationship with Jacob, a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe, who has a supernatural secret of his own.
When a chance encounter brings Bella face to face with a former nemesis, only the intervention of a pack of supernaturally large wolves saves her from a grisly fate, and the encounter makes it frighteningly clear that Bella is still in grave danger. In a race against the clock, Bella learns the secret of the Quileutes and Edward's true motivation for leaving her. She also faces the prospect of a potentially deadly reunion with her beloved that is a far cry from the one she'd hoped for.

then I begin..

Its been days since my interest in blogging started. I've heard about blogging back when I was in college and never really understood how it works or the tons of great things that I can gain from it.

Just recently I was hearing a lot of stories from my friend and colleague Winston (aka batangyagit), mostly about how he was earning money from blogging, get acquainted with fellow writers and gaining popularity. The only thing I was more interested and curious was the idea of earning money (and in dollars) which never occurred to me when I first heard blogging back in college. After a long story and explanation, I realized how much I missed, I thought that if I've started blogging back then, I could be earning a lot and doesn't have to worry of finding a side job.

Thinking that I should get started as early as possible to catch up, I started reading blog posts, and ask questions on how to start up my blog, the Dos and Donts and etc., but thinking and actually doing it is different. I usually have difficulty in the first step, choosing the blog address or title took longer than expected, even thinking of my first post was difficult. I just hope that I could easily meet other writers and give me tips in improving my skills and this site, or teach me how to earn in blogging.
